Canadian-German singer and songwriter Alice Merton co-wrote all fifteen songs on the anticipated album S.I.D.E.S., which was released in June 2022. With her talent, unique natural voice and songs full of honest personal confessions, Alice steps out of her comfort zone and gives listeners a piece of herself. She doesn't like to compromise and isn't afraid to experiment. Her songs often have an instantly addictive effect. Alice Merton will bring her distinctive blend of rock and pop to Prague on 27 October 2022, as part of her S.I.D.E.S. tour.
The S.I.D.E.S. album is a bold evolution from the style Alice presented on the ‘MINT’ album. Sonically it’s darker, drawing on angsty modern pop, alt-rock and other more abrasive sounds, while its themes are deeper and more introspective but with an undercurrent of hope. There’s no mistaking the power of Alice’s voice, but now there’s undoubtedly a heightened passion and attitude to her superlative delivery. Alice co-produced and co-wrote all fifteen songs that feature on the album. Other high profile collaborators include Koz (Dua Lipa), Jonny Coffer (Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding) and Jennifer Decilveo (Anne-Marie, Andra Day). Alice Merton adds, “The last two years have been challenging for everyone in some way or another. Friends and family were lost, restrictions were enforced for the first time since I’ve been alive, and mental strength had been tested to its limit. ‘S.I.D.E.S.’ tells my story of how I experienced these past years. It’s a summary of the ups and many downs, the psychological challenges I faced, and somehow realizing that there will always be another side to the story – the question is just how and when do you get there.”
“I’ve got no roots, but my home was never on the ground” she sings in No Roots, an anthem for all the nomads of the world who don’t feel at home anywhere. The irresistibly catchy pop-rock hit sums up Alice Merton’s life so far – she was born in Germany, lived successively in Canada, the United States, France and is now based in Berlin. “I don’t know where my home is, I don’t know where my roots are,” says the singer, who says she can’t remember how many times she’s moved.
Alice studied classical music, went through the Popakademie in Mannheim and the EP “No Roots” is her first foray on the international scene. She maintained her complete creative freedom by founding the label Paper Plane Records, where she released her successful debut album “MINT” in 2019, which landed her in the Top 10 in Europe. She is also released her album S.I.D.E.S. here this year.
